Kewadin donates $7,000 to St. Ignace Pond Hockey Tournament

Over 100 teams expected

 

St. Ignace, MI  - Eighty teams are currently signed up to brave the cold and snow to play at the 4th Annual Labatt's UP Pond Hockey Championship on Moran Bay February 19 – 21, 2010.  Kewadin Casinos is proud to be a part of the festivities again this year by donating $7,000 to the group.  The money is earmarked to bring in the Detroit Red Wings Alumni for a game at the Little Bear Arena on Friday February 19.  Kewadin has been a sponsor of this event since 2007 giving a total of nearly $20,000 to the event.

“We hope our sponsorship will help the St. Ignace community” said Alan Bouschor, V.P. of Marketing & Sales.  “The pond hockey tournament itself is a big draw .  We hope by helping bring in the Red Wing Alumni it creates more interest for people to visit the area and take part in the festivities for the entire weekend, and even longer.”

The tournament is a MAHA sanctioned event  of 4 on 4 hockey with no goalies on sixteen 75 'x 150' outside rinks with snow bank boards played on Moran Bay overlooking Mackinac Island.  Games begin on Friday at 9 a.m. and continue until Saturday at 6 p.m.  Championship games are on Sunday.  Other activities are planned throughout the weekend and the month.  The St. Ignace Youth Hockey Association selling concessions at the Detroit Red Wings Alumni exhibition game and during the actual pond hockey tournament, and that this is their biggest fundraising effort for the year.
